Like the end of a beautiful song

Death is like the end of a beautiful song

by Rev. Carrie Lauer on Sunday, June 12, 2011

A person brings into our life a certain sound
like no other sound we have heard before
We are engaged in the melody, tone and rhythm
we are emancipated from the day to day for
one brief moment in time,
Then the song ends and the depth of silence left behind
leaves a longing in our heart, a ringing in our ears
and a wish for one more note.

Rev. Nancy Herrick sent this poem to me about a year ago when my brother died of prostate cancer.  It was poignant then and is infinitely more so today.  O, for just one more note, or a bar, or a stanza.

  1. Dear BIll,

My thoughts and prayers of comfort go to you and your family as you walk through this new phase of life. My heart is full of love for you and Regina. I will miss her beautiful presence. I am struck now as well as always..what a gift of love that you both shared with each other. I love the picture….that is so both of you. Someone told me once, when a person leaves the planet, the relationship does not end..it changes form. Know that you and your family are supported with love and comfort.

    Dee
